You can walk a few minutes west from the the costumed crowds and find yourself a spectator at a Shinto wedding at the Meiji Shrine. (I love the priest's shoes--must be the Dutch in me!)
The 12 meter high entrance gate is made of 1,500 year-old Hinoki Cypress. Inside is a prayer wall where for 500 yen ($5.50) visitors can offer up a prayer in the form of writing on a wooden tablet.
